Disco Polo

Disco Polo is a 2015 Polish musical comedy directed by Maciej Bochniak. Set in the 1990s, it follows two musicians who charm their way to the top of Poland’s disco polo scene, and stars Dawid Ogrodnik, Piotr Głowacki, Joanna Kulig and Tomasz Kot. Released in February 2015, it drew some 877,000 admissions in Polish cinemas.

Putting mid-1990s Poland back on screen is mostly a matter of subtraction and addition. Contemporary aerials, satellite dishes, shop signage and parked cars are painted out of location plates, and period detail is restored through set extensions and matte painting. Concert sequences from that era typically need crowd replication and stage-lighting enhancement to fill an arena, while the television inserts a music-scene comedy runs on call for screen comps, format emulation and grain-matched integration.
