Quiz

Quiz is a 2020 British three-part ITV drama miniseries directed by Stephen Frears and adapted by James Graham from his own stage play. It dramatises the 2001 Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? ‘coughing major’ affair, following Charles and Diana Ingram from quiz-circuit obsessives to defendants in a criminal trial, with Michael Sheen as host Chris Tarrant. Matthew Macfadyen, Sian Clifford and Helen McCrory head the cast.

Drama built around a meticulously reconstructed television studio makes its visual effects invisible by design. The work sits in set extension and digital crowd augmentation to fill out an audience gallery, in period-accurate screen and monitor comps that have to read correctly on camera, and in patient rotoscoping and cleanup to strip modern signage, rigging and reflections out of contemporary locations standing in for 2001. These are the quiet disciplines Terminal FX practises alongside its FX simulation and animation work, and the studio contributed visual effects and animation to Quiz as part of its film, television and commercial portfolio.
