Svitoch chocolate commercial

Svitoch is a chocolate and confectionery maker from Lviv, part of Nestle, and its television commercial is staged around an old recipe book: handwritten pages, engraved ornament and broken chunks of chocolate resting on the paper. The spot is built from CG product visualization, FX simulation and compositing.

Chocolate is a shading problem before it is anything else. A fractured block only reads as chocolate when the broken face stays matte and faintly granular while the moulded face keeps its gloss, when the surface warms and softens under a lamp, and when the fracture geometry looks genuinely snapped rather than modelled. Paper, leather and gilding each want their own treatment alongside it, and the ornamental lettering has to animate on as motion graphics without losing the hand-drawn character of the page. A shallow depth of field ties the tabletop together, which in turn demands clean edges and careful compositing at every join. Craft at this scale is quiet work, and it is where Terminal FX spends much of its time on advertising.
