Pegasus

Pegasus is a 2019 Chinese comedy-drama written and directed by Han Han, released for the Lunar New Year. Drawing on Han Han’s own rally-driving background, it follows a suspended racer’s comeback and stars Shen Teng and Huang Jingyu. A once-celebrated rally driver, five years after being banned from racing, sets out to win back his licence and a place on the starting grid.

Motorsport asks for the camera to sit where no camera can safely go. That means vehicle and debris simulation, digital doubles of cars and drivers for shots no stunt team would attempt, and dust, gravel and tyre-smoke FX that carry the sensation of speed a second unit cannot record. CG environments and matte painting stretch mountain rally stages beyond the closed roads actually available, while match-move, rig removal and meticulous compositing erase tow rigs, safety cables and camera-car hardware. As part of its film, television and commercial portfolio, Terminal FX contributed visual effects and animation to Pegasus.
