Panipat

Panipat is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language historical drama directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, depicting the Third Battle of Panipat. It stars Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon, and was released theatrically in India in December 2019. The story follows Maratha commander Sadashiv Rao Bhau through the campaign that ended in the 1761 confrontation with Ahmad Shah Abdali on the plains north of Delhi.

A period battle on this scale is assembled more than it is photographed. Crowd simulation multiplies armies far past the extras standing on the field; CG environments and matte painting restore eighteenth-century plains, forts and encampments, and set extensions carry a build past the height it was ever practical to construct. Cannon fire, dust, smoke and destruction simulation supply the chaos in between, and rotoscoping and cleanup strip every modern trace from behind the ranks. Terminal FX contributed visual effects and animation to Panipat as part of its film, television and commercial portfolio.
