Kyivstar commercial 2017

This 45-second 2017 commercial for Kyivstar, the Ukrainian mobile operator, features a fluffy yellow chick character, seen in the poster frame sitting on a rock outdoors. Terminal FX published the spot on its Vimeo channel in 2017 and tagged its work as motion design, animation, compositing and 3D.

A soft, furry mascot in a real location is a classic character-integration job. The character’s fluff has to catch the same daylight as the scene, its shadow has to land convincingly on the surface beneath it, and its animation has to give it charm without breaking the sense that it is really there. Character animation, 3D and compositing together make that work, and they are central to the studio’s commercial output.
