Hybrid production
Hybrid AI and live-action production
Shoot your actors, generate the world around them. Hybrid production keeps the performance, the lighting and the direction of a real shoot, and hands the sets, extensions and impossible elements to AI and VFX.
Terminal FX supervises these shoots on set and delivers the post: the same studio plans the shot, shoots it correctly and finishes it — not a chain of vendors passing files between them.

What hybrid production covers
On-set VFX supervision
We are there for the shoot: framing, tracking markers, camera and lighting data, and the takes post will actually need.
Environment replacement
Sets generated or built in CG around the cast, from set extensions to entire worlds.
Gaussian splat capture
We capture real locations as 3D splats ourselves, for backgrounds, previz or LED walls.
Crowds, doubles & elements
Crowds, digital doubles, vehicles and set dressing added afterwards, art-directed to sit in the plate.
Relighting & continuity
Relighting and continuity fixes after the fact, so shots filmed on different days read as one scene.
Final compositing
Keying, integration, cleanup and finish — the invisible work that makes all of it believable.
The performance stays human.
Hybrid production exists because audiences forgive almost anything except a false performance. The actors are filmed; the set, the crowd, the light and the scale are built. Terminal FX has delivered visual effects for film, television and commercials since 2004, with teams in Europe and North America.
Frequently asked questions
What is hybrid production?
The actors are shot live, the set and elements around them are generated or built in CG, and the shot is finished in compositing.
Do you come to set?
Yes. We provide on-set VFX supervision: camera data, tracking markers, lighting reference and the takes post needs.
Can you capture real locations?
Yes. We capture locations with Gaussian splatting for use as backgrounds, previz or LED-wall content.
Can the location be changed after the shoot?
Yes — environment replacement, set extensions, crowds, vehicles and relighting are all part of hybrid work.
How do we start?
Email [email protected] or use the contact page, ideally before the shoot — that is where these decisions are cheapest.
Planning a shoot?
Tell us about the project before the shoot: what gets filmed, what gets built, and how the two meet.
