Commercial for Somersby beer

Made for Somersby, the cider brand produced by the Carlsberg Group, this commercial combines live-action photography with CG product visualization, liquid and fruit simulation and compositing. Fruit is the hero of the piece — berries held in an open hand, framed close enough that every highlight and bloom on the skin has to hold up — and the finished frames blend the plate with digital elements built to match it.

Fruit and liquid are among the least forgiving subjects in product work. Berries only read as edible when their translucency, waxy bloom and small imperfections are right, and poured cider needs a simulation dense enough to carry bubbles, condensation and refraction through glass without turning to plastic. Around that sits the invisible craft: rotoscoping hands and product out of the plate, cleaning up rigs and stray reflections, tracking CG elements into a very shallow depth of field, and grading the whole thing so it reads as one continuous piece of photography. Terminal FX handled the visual effects and 3D animation on the spot as part of our commercial and advertising work.
